I Won't Be 'Distracted Or Bullied' By Trump Tweets — Blumenthal

The president on Monday lashed out on Twitter at Sen. But if there is an exception to this principle, it should apply to Richard Blumenthal.

After an early morning tweet storm blasting media outlets and a USA senator, President Donald Trump spent portions the rest of his day in New Jersey Monday talking to top administration officials about North Korea.

Trump got in the last jab, or the last tweet anyway.

What is Blumenthal's military record?

In 2010, the New York Times was the first outlet to report on Blumenthal's problematic statements about his Vietnam service during his run for the Senate.

He later apologized for misrepresenting his service, saying he regretted saying he'd served "in" Vietnam instead of "during" Vietnam.

Trump received his own five deferments for military service during the Vietnam War. Blumenthal had said he served "in" Vietnam during the war. He also said that he had a high draft number, which is his usual excuse for not serving in the military during the Vietnam war. Meanwhile, Trump called Blumenthal a con artist who defrauded voters over the Vietnam controversy. Trump retaliated against Blumenthal on Twitter, bringing up his "major lie" about his military record.

The Connecticut senator had stated several times that he had fought in Vietnam.

"When we returned, we saw nothing like this", the senator said at a CT rally in support of troops in 2003.

In a subsequent tweet, Blumenthal said Trump's "bullying hasn't worked before and it won't work now".

How have Blumenthal and others reacted?

President Trump launched a renewed attack Monday on Sen.

Blumenthal briefly responded to the president's tweets on Twitter Monday morning. He won over his GOP challenger, Linda McMahon, by 12 percentage points.

Who is McMahon? She is the co-founder and former CEO of

Trump's boasts about his support among his base illustrated his focus on holding his core backers even as polls show that his approval ratings have continued to fall across the board. She now serves as a Trump appointee as the 25th administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Blumenthal isn't just ethically deficient. And there are growing, ominous threats, tweets and warnings that we've seen - the world has seen - that we're heading toward a collision between Bob Mueller and the President of the United States.
