While the Union minister accused the Left of using its cadres to eliminate rival party workers, he said the RSS and BJP could not be suppressed through violence.
However, the CPI-M organised a sit-in protest in front of Raj Bhavan, the residence of Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam, demanding the BJP leader also visit the families of its activists allegedly killed by BJP and RSS workers. This kind of violence will neither suppress the ideology, nor scare our workers and cadres, ' Jaitley said.
Apparently, this is a reply to the ongoing campaign by BJP and RSS at the centre against the CPI (M) in Kerala over its infamous political killings. Over the last 17 years, 85 CPI (M) workers, 65 RSS/BJP workers and 11 people from the Congress and the IUML have been killed in Kerala, all of them in incidents of political rivalry.
Addressing a gathering after meeting Rajesh's kin, Jaitley condemned the dastardly attack and said that "even enemies would not be as brutal as those who are involved in the murder".
"We are here to mourn the killing of Rajesh, whose sacrifice will remain with with us and inspire every karyakarta".
During his visit, Mr Jaitley had delivered a scathing criticism of the political violence in the state, saying the way Rajesh Edavakode was killed would even "shame terrorists".
For example, if you picked up Hindustan Times in Delhi this morning, the advertisement by the Kerala government is bound to get your attention more than the single column on Jaitley's visit to the state. The lone BJP legislator O Rajagopal also staged a walkout in protest against the CPM's alleged attacks on BJP workers.
Speaking in Kerala Assembly, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government had taken all measures to control politically-inspired crimes in the state, adding that they are ready for CBI probe.
"CPM has actually been functioning as communist party of murderers". The daily maintains that the RSS and BJP, with the help of national media, is spreading canards against the Left rule in Kerala.
Earlier, the RSS urged the central and state government to take strict action towards bringing this series of murders to an end in Kerala.
Incidentally, the Chief Minister has convened an all- party meeting this evening.
