Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Yasmin Rashid, who is also a candidate to contest election from NA-120 after the seat fell vacant due to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's disqualification, has demanded implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) in Punjab to curb attacks.
An official of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said Sharif's route in the city would be revised now. The police and rescue teams have been rushed to the site. What was the motive behind this blast and the kind of device being used i not yet ascertained.
The injured were being treated at Mayo Hospital and Mian Munshi Hospital.
The health condition of a number of those wounded in the explosion has been reported as critical. DIG Haider Ashraf confirmed that it was a bomb blast.
"The explosive material was planted inside a truck which was loaded with fruit", Abdullah Khan Sumbal told AFP. The blast took place at Bund road area.
The explosion shattered the windows of nearby buildings.
Local news outlet The Dawn quoted eye-witnesses as stating that the blast was heavy and may have damaged at least 100 vehicles, including motorbikes and small cars, that were parked along with the truck on Outfall Road.
Last month a suicide bomber from the militant group Pakistani Taliban killed at least 25 people in Lahore, many of them police.
