Meteor Shower will also mark Key's first Broadway production, after previously taking to the stage in the Off-Broadway rendition of Hamlet. Apparently, Martin asked Schumer to star in the production personally, and the two have known and been fond of each other for a very long time. And get this: her co-stars are Laura Benanti, Keegan Michael Key and Alan Tudyk.
Schumer and Alan Tudyk will play Corky and Norm, a California couple who invite Tony Award victor Laura Benanti and Keegan-Michael Key's Laura and Gerald over for dinner and stargazing one night. Instead, the two couples find themselves in a marital free-fall matched in velocity and peril only by the smoldering space rocks tearing through the sky. This is Martin's second Broadway production, his first being 2014's bluegrass musical Bright Star.
The design team for Meteor Shower includes Tony Award-winner Beowulf Borritt (Scenic Design), Tony and Academy Award-winner Ann Roth (Costume Design), six-time Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Lighting Design), and two-time Drama Desk Award-winner Fitz Patton (Sound Design). Reports suggested Martin, Brickell, and her husband, veteran musician Paul Simon, had poured more than $1 million of their personal funds into the show to help Bright Star keep shining.
The show opens for previews on November 1st, with its official opening on November 29th. And reigning comedy queen Amy Schumer is going with it.
We will let you know if there are further updates regarding the absurdist comedy, "Meteor Shower".
