The two went on to create the hugely popular and successful sitcom I Love Lucy in 1951 through their Desilu Productions, where Ball starred in the lead role, and for which won four Emmys.
The movie is still very much a work in progress (the role of Desi hasn't even been cast yet), but it already reflects Amazon's award-seeking intentions: Cate Blanchett will star, and The Social Network's Aaron Sorkin wrote the script.
Filmmakers are also looking to fill the parts of Vivian Vance and William Frawley, co-stars on I Love Lucy, on which they played Ethel and Fred Mertz.
"THR" reports Blanchett is in talks to star in a film based on the life of Ball, which is being produced by her and Desi Arnaz's children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. What's more, the movie will center on Ball's life and her marriage to Arnaz. As their production company grew, their relationship became more and more strained until finally, in 1960, Ball filed for divorce a day after Arnaz's 43rd birthday.
No other casting details have been announced at this point, though Javier Bardem is reportedly being considered to play Arnaz. The project has always been of interest, not least of all because in addition to its Oscar winning star, it also has a screenplay by another Oscar victor, Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs fame.
