Trump replaces chief of staff

Trump replaces chief of staff

Kelly has also fallen victim to criticism over plans to build Trump's vaunted wall on the U.S. -Mexico border, which appear to be stuck somewhere in the federal budgeting and procurement process.

In pushing out Spicer and Priebus and by installing his alter ego Scaramucci, Trump has shown that what he really desires is an administration of yes-men and yes-women.

"I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country".

Priebus leaves the White House after less than seven months as Trump's top adviser.

Future Vice President Dick Cheney (427 days) served as Chief of Staff for Ford as well. The former chief of staff declined to speak with reporters traveling with the president after returning.

The personnel shift came amid growing acrimony inside the White House, which was made public most clearly when new communications director Anthony Scaramucci called a reporter for The New Yorker and gave a series of expletive-ridden criticisms of Priebus, among others.

Priebus resigned privately Thursday, according to media reports. "It's not like it's a situation where there's a lot of ill feelings".

Priebus also told CNN his departure was so amicable the president had even been open to him weighing in on who should replace him.

Priebus said the president wanted go "a different direction" and that it was "a healthy thing". A role in the administration may look less appealing than it did several months ago, with the president having fired his Federal Bureau of Investigation director and acting attorney general and many other senior administration officials submitting resignations. "I support what the president did and I'm not getting into that, Wolf".

"I am always going to be a Trump fan".

Trump has ruffled feathers with off-message tweets, his handling of the Russian Federation investigation, the firing James Comey as FBI director (arguably his most high-profile political miscue) and his public shaming of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, which has turned many congressional Republicans on the president. The White House press secretary had not conducted many press briefings for several weeks, handing the reigns over to his then-deputy Sarah Huckabee Sanders instead.

MCEVERS: What is your sense from your sources and what you're hearing about whether John Kelly will have a better chance in this job than Priebus did? "I could not be more proud to call Reince a dear friend", he said.

"He has achieved so much, and he has done it all with class", Ryan said.

Kelly is the most senior USA officer to have lost a child in the "war on terror".

A Marine, Kelly served in the military for almost five decades and served in positions including chief of Southern Command, senior assistant to the secretary of defense and legislative liaison to Congress, and he served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kelly's permanent replacement will require Senate confirmation.

"It's time to drain the swamp, not promote insiders beholden to the Washington establishment who helped create it", she said.

Priebus and Scaramucci both traveled Friday with Trump for a crime speech on Long Island in NY.

US President Donald Trump has replaced chief of staff Reince Priebus, left, with John Kelly, right.

She warned against his appointment, saying "no Washington insider, regardless of who it is, should serve as President Trump's chief of staff".

Kelly is also a confidante of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, a retired Marine general and Kelly's former commander during the 2003 Iraq invasion. The retired general has told Democrats that it is Congress' responsibility to change immigration laws if they want to codify DACA. The U.S. president said he personally appointed the Secretary of Homeland Security to take the office on July 31.

Gen. Kelly will be sworn in Monday morning.
