Join The Roar from 12pm AEST for this incredible UFC card.
At 26, Whittaker is undoubtedly the future of the company and there is every chance he will take over as the face of a burgeoning market just like Bisping did.
This time around, Whittaker has found his himself as the betting favourite against Romero. "I think if you fight a five-round war with Yoel Romero then you deserve a medal of your own. It was pretty bad, but champions are made of this stuff".
After the fight, "The Reaper" spoke with Joe Rogan, who brought in UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in for comment.
Romero, meanwhile, will have to wait to see what's next. That he beat one of the world's best middleweights on it, that's something else. "Give me a breather and we'll give it a good crack, yeah?"
Riding an eight-fight win streak, Romero boasts dominant and brutal wins over the likes of Lyoto Machida and the recently retired Tim Kennedy.
"First of all Robert that was an awesome fight". That includes a unanimous-decision victory over Shevchenko in March 2016 in a non-title fight. Romero's grueling pace continued as he punished Whittaker in the clinch while muscling him around the Octagon, never giving him a moment to catch his breath. Santos landed 54 significant strikes, battering Meerschaert for the majority of the two rounds.
As Overeem went to the mic after being declared the victor, the crowd loudly booed. He had Overeem unconscious on the feet, and seemed one punch away from getting the KO.
One way you can tell is by how important the Whittaker-Romero fight felt. It appears it still needs to look.
"May the best man win".
He added: "I made it through, though". That's not unlike 13 months ago at UFC 199, where Bisping won the real belt off of Rockhold in a matchup that was a backup plan after Weidman pulled out of a scheduled rematch.
"I am always happy to get the win", Blaydes said.
Alas, that show of horrors didn't mark the end of this bout. While Miller did land more than twice as many leg strikes as Pettis (21 compared to nine), it wasn't enough to make up for his superior opponent.
'Nunes couldn't cut weight correctly and was hospitalized.
Both fighters were clearly exhausted in the fifth, but they were determined to put on a show.
- Pettis felt like he broke the same hand as he did in the Max Holloway fight. Of course, that was when he was competing in the featherweight division.
Romero working knees. Whittaker broke free, however Whittaker was showing signs of a slight limp.
Font secured a victory via second-round submission, after locking his opponent in a guillotine choke, causing de Andrade to tap out.
Both fighters cracked smiles while Bisping went full promo-mode during his smack talking tirade.
The second saw Whittaker come out quickly with punches and kicks. "I was a little disappointed by the fight".
"I have a lot of support from the Australian crowd back home, I know this and I'm blessed to be in this position".
Cody Stamann: "I feel great". I'm heading back to the gym to get ready and I want someone who is above me in the rankings next.
