The Celtics acquired the No. 3 overall pick from the 76ers in their deal, setting themselves up well for the future.
The first Boston Celtics traded the No. 1 overall pick to the Philadelphia 76ers and with all signs pointing to the 76ers selecting Markelle Fultz of Washington, the Los Angeles Lakers are unofficially on the clock.
In most drafts, there's always one player who separates himself from the rest of the draft class.
While Simmons missed the season, center Joel Embiid was limited to 31 games because of injuries. At this point, it would be a significant surprise if he wasn't taken No. 2 overall. We can't turn away from the LaVar Ball Show, because we're all waiting for what insane thing he'll say or do next. LaVar has proven he can be an off-court distraction with the things he has publically vocalized. He has the size to defend most National Basketball Association teams' best player and the skills with the ball to create for himself.
The jury is still out on which college star will make for a better pro once they're selected Thursday night. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 190 pounds, Ball showed this past season at UCLA he was worth the hype.
He is primed to be taken second in the draft by the Lakers, which could be a match made in heaven.
Philadelphia also owns four second-round picks, acquired in previous trades with the Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz.
The question, then, is this: Are the Pistons interested in what the Lakers are offering?
"They need a leader", Ball said after working out for the Lakers recently. Already, the Pacers have talked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, which sounds intriguing for neutral NBA fans already eyeing the 2018 NBA Finals, but one imagines that the Pacers will benefit more from trading George to a team with younger assets on the roster. But in a draft with some other great guards, it's easy for the N.C. State product to get overlooked.
So, how can two young Point Guards fit together on the same team? This was the best workout we've had in terms of level of play and intensity. Kennard is coming off a strong sophomore year where he averaged 19.5 points while hitting 43.8 percent from 3-point range. Given this weakness, he is well suited to draw attention and create open shots for Boston's plethora of shooters. If the Celtics were absolutely settled on Jackson, they likely would have just kept their No. 1 pick.
But we officially know who will be wearing a fancy suit and getting a nice watch once they finally get picked. After all, he did drop 39 points on UCLA when he knocked them out of the NCAA tournament. He missed six games with a knee issue late in the season. Brandon Ingram will likely step into the starting lineup at the small forward spot with Julius Randle and Timofey Mozgov (if not traded this summer) occupying the other forward positions.
Fox is a 6-4 point guard. Jared Dudley got $10 mil to ride the bench previous year and will continue to do so as the Suns give minutes to younger players. But in a Bleacher Report feature, it's Aaron Fox, De'Aaron's father, who has something to say about Lonzo.
