As of writing, Wonder Woman now has a domestic total of $129.4 Million, having added an extra $26.15 Million on Monday and Tuesday.
Kudos to director Patty Jenkins for making a film that defied expectations. "Wonder Woman" also broke the record for the most successful opening weekend for a movie directed by a woman. Indeed, almost three times as many people have lived on the International Space Station than have created films that break the $100 million opening weekend mark, and that's a triumph worthy of note for any gender.
The world will have to wait to find out specifics regarding the plot of Wonder Woman 2, but it's clear that the team behind the movie are passionate about telling her story and getting it right.
Leading lady Gal Gadot has an option thanks to her overall deal with DC Films Universe, including the upcoming "Justice League".
Initial reports indicated that Wonder Woman destroyed the box office over its opening weekend, but you can now officially tip your hat to Patty Jenkins: her film had a total global opening weekend of $223 million, the highest United States opening weekend for a woman director ever. Wonder Woman could have been the only character in the movie and it would still be great, however, I enjoyed the dynamics between her and her love interest Steve Trevor.
Bringing in more than $100 million, the film became the biggest opening ever for a female director, edging out the former title holder "Fifty Shades of Grey" by just over $17 million. "I'd love to be just like her when I'm older". I made Wonder Woman. "I went down a gravel hill where they took Wonder Woman up a conveyer belt and they drop her off". But what's important to me is that girls like my niece now have another story of success paving the way to their own, hopefully brighter, future.
